What Sells on Mercari in 2026: Best Categories and How to Check Demand

Flat lay of branded clothing and accessories, the kind of items that sell on Mercari

What sells on Mercari? Everyday branded clothing for women, men and kids, electronics, toys and collectibles, home goods and beauty. Mercari is a general marketplace, so light, searchable items that ship easily do best. This guide covers the categories worth listing, how to check demand with sold listings, how to price for Mercari's offer-heavy buyers, and what the current 10% selling fee leaves you with.

What sells on Mercari?

What sells on Mercari is everyday stuff people use: women's and men's clothing, kids' clothing, electronics, toys and collectibles, home goods and beauty. Mercari is a general marketplace rather than a fashion-only app, so it rewards sellers who list a mix of branded clothing, small electronics and hobby items that ship easily.

Mercari doesn't publish a public ranking of its best-selling categories. The list below reflects the categories its own site is built around and what reseller guides consistently report. Use it to decide where to look, then check sold listings for the exact item before you buy.

The best things to sell on Mercari, by category

Women's clothing

Women's clothing is one of Mercari's deepest categories. Everyday brands sell more than runway names here: Lululemon, Free People, Madewell, Anthropologie, J.Crew, Athleta, Zara and Abercrombie. Activewear and denim are steady, and dresses sell well a few weeks before their season. Our Lululemon resale listing tips cover the style names and sizes buyers search for.

Extended sizes are an underserved niche. Our guide to plus-size reselling on Poshmark and Mercari covers brands and the size keywords buyers type.

Men's clothing

Men's buyers on Mercari look for workwear, outdoor brands and graphic tees: Carhartt, Patagonia, The North Face, Levi's, Nike and Ralph Lauren. Vintage band and concert tees are a strong niche, and Mercari is one of the two main platforms our vintage band tee resale guide compares. Put tag brand, era and measurements in the title and description.

Kids' clothing

Kids' clothes sell well as lots and as single branded pieces (Carter's, Hanna Andersson, Gap Kids, Patagonia Kids, Nike). New-with-tags items and complete outfits move faster than single basics. Condition labels matter a lot here; our guide to NWT vs play condition pricing shows how to price each grade.

Electronics

Phones, tablets, game consoles, controllers, headphones, smartwatches and laptop accessories are a big part of Mercari. Buyers search by exact model ("AirPods Pro 2nd gen", "Nintendo Switch OLED"), so put the model and storage size in the title and say whether it's tested and reset. Mercari offers authentication on some higher-value items for a $5 seller fee, which can help buyers trust a pricier listing.

Toys and collectibles

Trading cards (Pokemon, sports, Magic: The Gathering), Funko Pops, LEGO sets, action figures, dolls and video games are classic Mercari sellers. Complete sets, original boxes and clear photos of corners and edges raise prices. Card values change fast, so check sold prices from the last few weeks, not months.

Home goods

Small appliances (air fryers, coffee makers, stand mixers), branded cookware, candles, decor, bedding and storage sell when they're light enough to ship affordably. Heavy items lose money on shipping, so weigh them before you list. Our guide to Mercari shipping options explains prepaid labels and when to ship on your own.

Beauty

New and unused makeup, skincare sets, fragrances and hair tools sell well, especially sealed items and gift sets from known brands. Mercari prohibits FDA-restricted items such as homemade cosmetics and ingestibles, so stick to sealed retail products and check Mercari's prohibited items page if you're unsure.

What usually struggles on Mercari

  • Heavy, low-value items. If the label costs as much as the item, buyers skip it. Bundle or sell locally instead.
  • Unbranded basics. Plain tees and fast fashion sell for very little. Group them into lots.
  • Vague listings. No brand, no size, no model number means buyers can't find it. Mercari titles allow 80 characters; our guide to the Mercari title character limit shows how to use them.

If something has been sitting for weeks, the problem is usually the listing or the price, not the platform. Our guide to why items aren't selling on Mercari walks through the fixes.

How to see sold items on Mercari and check demand

Sold listings tell you what buyers actually paid, which is the only number that matters. Do this before you buy inventory, not after.

1

Search the exact item

Search like a buyer: brand, item and key detail, for example "Lululemon Align leggings 25 inch size 6". Broad searches ("leggings") give meaningless numbers.

2

Filter to sold items

Open the search filters and set the item status to sold (the label differs slightly between the app and the website). Sold items show with a sold banner over the photo.

3

Compare sold with active

Count the sold results, then switch the filter back to items for sale and count those. Many sold and few active means demand is ahead of supply. Hundreds active and a handful sold means you'll be competing on price.

4

Look at the price cluster, not the top sale

Ten sales between $28 and $35 tell you more than one at $70. Match condition and size too: a new-with-tags comp doesn't price a worn item.

5

Check likes on active listings

Mercari shows how many people liked a listing. Lots of likes on several similar items is a sign of interest, and it also means buyers are waiting for a better price.

If you can't find any sold comps, see our guide to pricing used clothes with no comps.

How to price items to sell on Mercari

Mercari buyers send offers constantly, so price with room to negotiate but close enough to sold comps to get noticed.

  • Start near the middle of the sold cluster. If similar items sold for $28 to $35, list around $34 and expect offers near $30.
  • Decide who pays shipping. "Free shipping" listings attract buyers, but the label comes out of your payout. Add it to your price when you set it.
  • Use price drops and offers to likers. Our guide to Mercari offers to likers covers the discount that tends to move items.
  • Know when to let Mercari adjust the price. Smart Pricing lowers your price gradually toward a floor you set. Our Mercari Smart Pricing guide explains when it helps and when to turn it off.

For the wider method, see our reseller's pricing playbook.

Should it go on Mercari or somewhere else?

Mercari is a strong all-rounder, but some items earn more on a specialist app. Use this as a quick sorting guide, then confirm with sold prices on each platform.

Many resellers list the same item on two or three apps and end the others when it sells. If you do, keep titles specific to each app's search. Mercari fees in 2026 and what you keep

Mercari's fees for US sellers are simple. Check Mercari's help center before you price, because fees can change.

FeeAmount
Listing fee$0
Selling fee10% of the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays
Payment processing feeNone on listings created or updated since January 6, 2025
Direct deposit payoutFree
Instant Pay to a debit card$3 per cash-out

Example: you sell a $40 jacket and the buyer pays $8 shipping. Mercari takes 10% of $48, which is $4.80. The buyer's $8 covers the prepaid label, so you keep about $35.20. If you offer free shipping instead, the fee is 10% of $40 ($4) and the label cost comes out of your $36 payout. Our beginner's guide to selling on Mercari covers the full setup.

Once you know what sells, list it fast

Mercari rewards sellers who list often and list clearly. The Quicklist AI Mercari listing generator writes an 80-character title, a description and 3 hashtags from a few words or a photo, then fills them into the Mercari form. It comes with 2 free listings, and plans start at $2.99 a month on the pricing page.
