What Sells on eBay in 2026: Best-Selling Categories and Items

Trading card collection, one of the categories that sells the most on eBay

What sells on eBay? Trading cards, electronics, branded clothing, sneakers, auto parts and luxury goods lead, based on what eBay itself reports. But a category list only tells you where to look. This guide ranks the best-selling categories using eBay's own data, then shows you how to check demand for any item with the Sold filter, sell-through rate and the free Terapeak Product Research tool.

What sells the most on eBay?

The categories that sell the most on eBay are collectibles (led by trading cards), electronics, clothing and shoes, auto parts, and luxury goods like handbags and watches. eBay doesn't publish a full best-seller ranking, so the order below is built from what eBay itself reports: its earnings results, its seller guides and its trend reports.

  1. Trading cards and collectibles. eBay says collectibles were the largest contributor to its sales growth in early 2026, led by trading cards (sports cards, Pokemon, One Piece and Magic: The Gathering).
  2. Electronics. eBay's own seller guide, citing ZIK Analytics, puts electronics at about 16% of listings, the largest share: phones, tablets, laptops, consoles, wearables and smart home gear.
  3. Clothing and accessories. About 14% of listings in the same guide. Denim, activewear, coats and jackets, and graphic tees are named as strong sellers.
  4. Auto parts and accessories. About 10% of listings. eBay says its Motors business brings in over $10 billion a year and that one in three of its shoppers worldwide buys from it.
  5. Sneakers. A fashion category eBay backs with its Authenticity Guarantee.
  6. Luxury handbags, watches and jewelry. eBay's 2026 Watchlist report shows strong resale prices for names like Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Patek Philippe.
  7. Toys, video games and hobby items. eBay's seller guide links toy and collectible demand to new film releases.
  8. Home, garden and tools. Power tools, small kitchen appliances and branded cookware.

Two cautions. Share of listings isn't the same as share of sales, and a busy category is also a crowded one. What sells for you depends on the specific item, its condition and your price, which is why the second half of this guide shows you how to check demand yourself.

What eBay itself says is growing

eBay calls its strongest areas "focus categories": collectibles, motors parts and accessories, fashion, and refurbished goods. In its Q2 2026 results, eBay reported that focus category sales grew 26% year over year and passed 40% of its total for the first time. Its CEO has said person-to-person selling and pre-owned goods together make up about 70% of eBay's sales.

For a reseller that's useful in a simple way. eBay is investing in exactly the things secondhand sellers list: cards, used clothing, sneakers, parts and refurbished tech. Those categories get new buyer protections, authentication and AI tools first.

The best-selling categories, one by one

Trading cards and collectibles

Cards are eBay's standout. eBay said sports card growth sped up in Q1 2026 and outpaced Pokemon, while its TCGplayer business saw strength across Pokemon, One Piece and Magic. Its AI card scanning feature passed 80 million scans by August 2026. Coins, sports memorabilia and toys also grew. The catch: card prices swing with new sets and hype, so check recent sold prices, not last year's. Graded cards (PSA, BGS, CGC) sell on the grade; raw cards sell on your photos.

Electronics

Phones, tablets, laptops, game consoles and headphones sell in volume because buyers search by exact model. Tested, reset, complete items with accessories listed sell best. Refurbished tech is a focus category for eBay, but broken items sell too when you describe the fault honestly and price for parts.

Clothing and accessories

Clothing sells best on eBay when it's branded and searchable, for example Patagonia, Levi's, Carhartt, Lululemon, Nike and true vintage. eBay's own seller guide names activewear as one of its best-selling fashion categories. Vintage band and concert tees are a strong niche; our guide to vintage band tee resale covers tags and pricing, and the vintage denim listing guide covers Levi's details buyers search for.

Sneakers

Sneakers are one of eBay's biggest fashion categories, and qualifying pairs go through the Authenticity Guarantee, which gives buyers confidence on higher-priced shoes. Popular models move fast if the size, style code and condition are clear. Our guide to selling sneakers on eBay covers sizing and authentication.

Luxury bags, watches and jewelry

eBay's Spring/Summer 2026 Watchlist report (May 2026) found the average resale price of the Gucci Padlock bag up 530% and the Patek Philippe Nautilus up 154%, and named Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Burberry as brands regaining momentum. Those are headline items, but the wider point holds: recognizable designer pieces in good condition sell, and eBay has expanded Authenticity Guarantee to more than 100 fashion brands in the US and UK.

Auto parts and accessories

Parts sell on exact fit. Buyers search by part number and vehicle, and eBay's compatibility tools match them. If you can confirm the part number and what it fits, this is a deep, steady category. It's also bulky and technical, so many clothing resellers skip it.

Toys, games and home goods

Toys and games, retro consoles, branded cookware and power tools are steady sellers; eBay's seller guide names tools, small kitchen appliances, and toys and games among its high-demand groups. Complete sets with original boxes and manuals earn more, and heavy items need careful shipping math before you buy.

How to check what sells on eBay yourself

Category lists tell you where to look. The Sold filter tells you whether a specific item will sell, and for how much. Do this before you buy, not after.

1

Search the exact item

Type the search a buyer would: brand, model and key detail, for example "Patagonia Better Sweater mens M". Too broad ("fleece jacket") and the numbers mean nothing.

2

Turn on the Sold items filter

On the eBay website, find "Sold items" in the filters on the left (under Show only, or in the full filter list). In the app, tap Filter and switch on Sold items. Green prices are what buyers actually paid. eBay's regular sold search only goes back a few months (about 90 days).

3

Count sold, then count active

Note how many sold results there are. Then turn the filter off and note how many are listed right now. Use the same search for both.

4

Work out the sell-through rate

Sell-through rate is sold divided by sold plus active. If 60 sold and 40 are active, 60 / (60 + 40) = 60%. Many resellers treat anything around 50% or higher as fast-moving and under about 20% as slow, but that's a rule of thumb, not an eBay figure. Fast categories and cheap items always look better than rare ones.

5

Check the price spread

Look at the range, not the top sale. Ten sales between $35 and $45 tell you far more than one at $120. Sort sold results by most recent so old spikes don't mislead you.

Use Terapeak Product Research (free in Seller Hub)

For deeper research, eBay's Product Research tool, still widely known by its old name Terapeak, is free for all sellers who use Seller Hub. eBay made it free in 2021. Open Seller Hub, click the Research tab, and choose Product research. In the eBay app, it's under the Selling tab as Research.

Search an item and it shows the average sold price (including accepted Best Offers), the price range, the sell-through rate, how many sellers sold it, the share of sales with free shipping and the average shipping cost. eBay says it covers up to three years of sales data, far more than the regular sold search, which helps with seasonal items. A related tool, Sourcing Insights, shows which categories have more demand than supply, but it requires an eBay Store subscription (Basic or higher).

Use it to compare two items you're deciding between, find the best month to list a seasonal piece, or see whether free shipping is the norm in your category. Pair it with our reseller's pricing playbook once you know the range.

What usually struggles on eBay

  • Unbranded basics. Plain tees and generic fast fashion have huge supply and low prices. They often do better in bundles, or on Vinted where buyers expect low prices.
  • Heavy, low-value items. If shipping costs more than the item, buyers walk away.
  • Items with no searchable identity. Nothing to search for (no brand, model or style) means fewer buyers find it.
  • Anything with no recent sold comps. Zero sales in 90 days is a warning, not a gap in the market. If you have one anyway, see how to price when there are no comps.

Once you know what sells, list it well

Finding a good item is half the job. A clear title with the brand, model, size and condition, complete item specifics and an honest description decide whether buyers find it and keep it. Our guides to eBay title optimization and free eBay listing templates cover both, and timing matters too: the Q4 holiday flipping calendar shows when to list what.

If writing listings is your bottleneck, the Quicklist AI eBay listing generator writes the title, description and tags from a few words or a photo and fills them into the eBay form. eBay also has its own free option, covered in our guide to the eBay AI listing tool. Quicklist AI comes with 2 free listings, and plans are on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

What sells on eBay the most?

Based on eBay's own reports, the biggest categories are collectibles (especially trading cards), electronics, clothing and accessories, auto parts, sneakers and luxury goods. eBay said collectibles, led by trading cards, were the largest driver of its sales growth in the first half of 2026.

What sells best on eBay for beginners?

Branded clothing, sneakers, books, video games and small electronics are easy places to start. They're easy to photograph and ship, buyers search for them by name, and you can check sold prices in seconds. Start with items you already own to learn the process.

How do I see what's selling on eBay?

Search for the item, then turn on the Sold items filter (in the left-hand filters on the website, or under Filter in the app). Green prices show what buyers actually paid in roughly the last 90 days. For more detail and longer date ranges, use Product Research in Seller Hub.

Is Terapeak free on eBay?

Yes. eBay made Terapeak Product Research free for all Seller Hub sellers in 2021. You'll find it under the Research tab in Seller Hub, now labeled Product research. Sourcing Insights, a related tool, needs an eBay Store subscription.

What is a good sell-through rate on eBay?

Sell-through rate is items sold divided by sold plus active listings for the same search. Many resellers see 50% or more as fast-moving and below about 20% as slow. That's a rule of thumb, not an eBay standard, and it varies by category and price.

What sells fast on eBay right now?

Trading cards, popular sneakers, branded activewear, current-generation phones and consoles, and recognizable designer bags tend to sell quickly. Check the Sold filter for your exact item, because speed depends on the model, size, condition and price more than the category.
